Gratitude Monday

My friend Leah has been doing this Gratitude Monday thing on her blog every Monday for as long as I’ve been reading it. I decided to steal the idea, because I think it’s a good one. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the negative, and it never hurts to make an effort to be positive now and then. Especially considering one of my pet peeves is all the pissing and moaning that goes on via social media. So here’s my first effort. . . .

This Old House

We’re pretty much all the way out of this place, just have one more load of things to haul out of the garage and we’ll be done with it. Meanwhile realtors have been showing herds of people through it, and we hope it sells soon. The last month of cleaning and re-painting and all that has been a royal pain, and it has disconnected us somewhat I think to what the house has meant to us. But I’m pretty sentimental, and I can’t help to have a soft spot for this nothing-special-about-it-old-place.

We lived there from August of ’05 until this past February, which is the longest I’ve lived anywhere other than at my parents’ house growing up. It’s the home Julia joined me in when she first moved up from Arizona, and it’s the home we first walked into a few months later when we were married. It’s the place where Sid spent a lot of growing up, and where we dealt with a lot of the aches and pains that go along with that. Our lives have changed drastically since moving in there together, entirely for the better (despite a bump or two along the way).

So I’m happy to have taken the chance we did in buying this shack and making a go of it. It will be remembered fondly.

  1. It is always best to find the happiness and you did it wonderfully in this blog. I am sure you don’t want it known but you are a very sentimental guy and I love for that.

  2. I like the idea of “Gratitude Monday” and need some better excuses to blog. I’ll have to remember this–old homes hold lots of memories.
