The “2011 Wasn’t So Bad” Edition.
I don’t think I’m unique in the writing world when it comes to being a “glass half empty” kind of person. I’m a horrible self-critic, I find so many things to be disgruntled and irritated about, and I set all kinds of barriers for myself to have to fight through. Reflecting on 2011, I was mostly focusing on the things I didn’t get done that I wanted to. So then I rounded up the copies I have of the various anthologies available in print that I have stories appearing in — that’s what this picture represents. Granted, it’s a modest array . . . but considering I’d never had fiction published in anything in print before, I have to allow myself some satisfaction, and a huge helping of just being grateful. There is one more, Off the Record, that I ordered the print copy of that still hasn’t arrived yet. And a final one, the Winter edition of Needle, will be out sometime this month, or maybe February. Pretty stoked. Of course, I’d be remiss in not plugging the opportunity to buy these as well — so go for it!

Big thanks to the editors who take the time to put these things together: reading the stories, making them better, dealing with flaky, neurotic writers, all that. It’s a thankless job, and it’s always an honor and a thrill to have something accepted. And huge thanks to the readers and supporters of this kind of underground undertaking. It’s nice to have people out there helping make it happen. It’s a bigger deal than you may realize. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Here’s to 2012!
